After three consecutive second-place finishes, the Sierra College men’s golf team came up big Thursday, claiming a decisive 18-stroke victory at Big 8 Conference tournament No. 11 to solidify its hold on the league lead with one tourney remaining.
Sierra’s Kevin Lucas stroked a three-under-par 69 to lead the Wolverines to a team score of 373 with a comfortable margin over second-place Santa Rosa, which shot a 391. The event was contested at Oakdale Golf and Country Club’s Par 72, 6,744-yard course.
With team leader Stephen Edman struggling on this day with a 79, A.J. Hasegawa (73) and Kyle Chatelain (74) continued to deliver solid results. Eric McIntosh (78) and Ryan Miller (79) helped to seal the deal.
The Wolverines will tee off with a league title in their sights in conference tournament No. 12 Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Catta Verdera Country Club in Lincoln.
