William Jessup University plans to launch a new fundraising event, “Give:24,” which will be operated entirely online. The one-day campus wide staff and faculty effort encourages every Jessup University employee to contact 24 friends, neighbors and family, asking them to give just $24 within a 24-hour period on Sept. 8. Efforts are being made on behalf of 24 teams representing departments within the university with funds going toward university programs and 10 percent divided among 24 local charities. “This event reflects who we are as a university," said Jessup's Vice President of Advancement and event originator Eric Hogue. "Our mission is to give back and that is exactly what we plan to do. The funds raised will go toward enhancing our programs to further benefit students; aiding deserving students with scholarships and to our local charities. This is just one way that WJU is transforming tomorrow, today." In the current year, William Jessup University has provided more than $5 million worth of scholarships to achieving students. All departments will conduct business as usual throughout the 24 hour timeframe as all contributions will be solicited via email and social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, driving participants to the university’s website at Some of the non-profit organizations slated to receive funds include the Matt Redding Foundation, Mercy Ministries, Placer Adult Literary Service (PALS), World Vision and Teen Challenge. University personnel plan to dress in Give:24 t-shirts to show participation and support of the new event. If the University is successful in raising $25,000, the event will mark the largest fundraising effort any university has made to date using social media in a 24 hour period. Founded in 1939 by William Jessup, the University moved to Rocklin, California, in August 2004. It is the first and only WASC accredited private four-year university to have its main campus located in the greater Sacramento area, offering degrees in many different disciplines.
