Social media drives Jessup’s fundraising event
On Sept. 26, William Jessup University plans to hold its second annual fundraising event operated entirely online and known as Give:24. The one-day cause-driven social media campaign is a campus-wide staff and faculty effort to encourage every WJU employee to contact 24 friends, neighbors and family, asking them to give just $24 within a 24-hour period.
“WJU was the first university to hold an event of this nature when we did this last year,” said Eric Hogue, Jessup’s chief development officer and event originator. “This event reflects who we are as a university. Our mission is to give back, and that is exactly what we plan to do.”
Efforts are being made on behalf of teams representing 28 departments within the university to raise funds. The funds raised will go toward enhancing Jessup’s departmental programs to further benefit students and aiding deserving students with scholarships. In addition, 10 percent will go to local charities selected by each department.
In the current year, William Jessup University has provided more than $5.4 million worth of scholarships for achieving students.
All departments will conduct business as usual throughout the 24-hour timeframe, as all contributions will be solicited via email and social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, driving participants to the University website at www.jessup.edu/give 24.
Some of the charities slated to receive funds include but are not limited to the Matt Redding Foundation, Rocklin Library, Literacy Support Council of Placer County, Make A Wish and Teen Challenge.
University personnel will dress in Give:24 T-shirts to show participation and support of the innovative event.
Last year, the event raised more than $30,000 in a single day. This year, the university has a goal of raising $40,000 in a single day.
