Spring View Middle School student selected to perform in state honor band
Spring View Middle School trumpet student Keegan McLean auditioned for and made it into the California Band Directors Association State Honor Band.
There are hundreds of junior high band students from all over the state who audition for the honor band, and only the top students make it based on their audition of solos and scales.
Students who are selected to be a part of this prestigious event have to put in many hours of practice to prepare the solo and scales.
The students will participate in a series of intensive rehearsals beginning Feb. 21 and culminating in a concert on Saturday, Feb. 23, in the Saroyan Theater in Fresno. The group will be directed by University of the Pacific director of bands Dr. Eric Hammer.
"It means everything to me,” Keegan said of being accepted into the band. “It is an accomplishment, but even more than that, it is a learning experience. Playing the music they sent me and the challenges it presented help me grow as a musician. Additionally, getting to play with the best musicians in the state, especially the best trumpet players in the state, is a huge honor and I am so excited to learn from them."
