St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church says hello to the community

-A +A
New to the neighborhood of Wildcat Boulevard, St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church will be welcoming neighbors with free music, games and kids activities Aug. 7. The event is a chance for the church to get acquainted with the community, said Rev. Nordon Winger. “We want to do something for the community,” Winger said. “This is our way of saying hello and thank you.” From 4-8 p.m., attendees can listen to beachy tunes by a live band, eat a barbecue chicken dinner (for an additional cost) and kids can partake in slip and slide, face painting and other games. Raffle prizes will also be handed out, including a chance to win a five-day cruise. The dinner will be grilled up by church members, Winger said. “We have some excellent grillmasters,” he said. In December, the church moved into its temporary space on the Maria Montessori Charter Academy campus. The vacant lot up the hill from the school will soon become their permanent location once their church is built. Previously, the church was off Cincinnati Avenue in a more industrial part of Rocklin. But plans for their new location are in the works. Winger said they are in the early stages of planning with an architect. “Our next move is going to be where we’re going to be for years – decades to come,” Winger said. But until then, they’re hoping to get to know more people in the community through this event they hope to make annual. “We’re delighted to be in the neighborhood where we’re going to be in the long-time future,” Winger said. ~Lauren Gibbs ---------------------- St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church community event When: 4-8 p.m. Aug. 7 Where: 1850 Wildcat Blvd. in Rocklin Cost: Free; chicken dinner for an additional cost Information: 435-9552
