Stratospheric salaries wrong

Our new Rocklin City Manager’s (population 56,000) salary is $198,000 (Journal, Dec. 10). Our governor’s (population 37 million) salary is around $180,000. The highest-paid governor in the country makes $206,000, and his responsibilities far outweigh a city manager’s. What’s the justification on the local level? Not population size, or level of liability or risk. Not “because that guy over there makes this much so I should.” So ... ? When are we in this city, state and nation, going to start implementing some serious austerity measures of our own? Or truly deal with long-term unfunded debt, out-of-control spending beyond revenue and private/public sector salary inequity? John Chase, Rocklin
