Parker Whitney Kindergarten/first grade teacher Jennifer Wong and her students lead the student body on a walk around the school’s newly refurbished playing field last Friday. To celebrate the field’s transformation, the student body first gathered in the formation of the letters P-W-E-S (Parker Whitney Elementary School) for a photo marking the historic event. Utilizing state facility improvement funds, the makeover required using trenchers to cut drainage lines into the lava cap underneath the dirt and planting new sod. A walking path around the perimeter was added. Parker Whitney, which opened in 1965, is the district’s second oldest school.
