Veteran firefighter James Summers will become interim Rocklin Fire Chief when Fire Chief Bill Mikesell steps down on July 13. Summers, a Battalion Chief with Special Operations, is in his 26th year with the Rocklin Fire Department with more than 30 years of fire service experience in various capacities. "His devotion to the fire service, in addition to his years of experience and academic background, will provide a seamless transition until a permanent fire chief is appointed," noted City Manager Rick Horst. ?The City of Rocklin is well served by the a number of fire personnel who are well-experienced and well-qualified, any of whom could have stepped up to the position of interim fire chief,? he said. The recruitment effort to fill the permanent position of fire chief will begin in early to mid-July. It is anticipated that a number of current Rocklin fire personnel as well as firefighters from other agencies will apply for the position. ?The department has excelled under Chief Bill Mikesell?s leadership with a seasoned crew and an established set of policies and operating procedure,? Horst said. ?We extend our deep appreciation to Chief Mikesell for his service, his dedication, and for his contribution in making the City of Rocklin on of the premier cities in all of California.?
