People driving by Dawson Oil Company on Pacific Street this week may have noticed that the elaborate Halloween display is quite a bit lighter than it usually is.

That’s because last week somebody stole about $1,000 worth of decorations from the business that puts up displays for Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July and Halloween.

“It happens once in a while,” said Ellie Dawson, who owns the business with her son and daughter. “But this time they decided to take a little bit more, so it’s kind of empty over there. It’s kind of maddening, but there’s not much you can do about it.”

The biggest item stolen was a blow-up hearse being pulled by horses, with a moving body inside. Three ghouls on stakes were taken, along with a witch’s cauldron, vulture and blow-up spider.

Dawson said she has filed a report with the Rocklin Police Department, and urged anybody with information to either come into the business or call 885-2160.

“It’s not so much the money involved,” she said. “It’s the principle.”
