The Rocklin High girls golf team showed they were ready to make a run for the Sierra Foothill League title by dispatching Granite Bay last week, 199-225 at Whitney Oaks Golf Club. “Where do we start with (the) match against Granite Bay,” said Rocklin head coach Susan Espana, “the (2011) league champions?” One would have to start with Rocklin’s Camille Wagg. The junior moved to the top of the SFL rankings with her three-stroke victory over the Grizzly’s Paige Lee. “Camille Wagg shot a two-under sizzling 33 to beat Granite Bay’s Paige Lee,” Espana said. “I believe (Lee) had not lost a league match as an individual in two years.” Although Wagg’s outing was the round of the day, her teammates didn’t disappoint. That was especially true of freshman Danielle Lozano, who aced the eighth hole at Whitney Oaks to put a stamp on her round of 37. Of the six players that competed for Rocklin (top five scores determine team score) the highest round was a 48 showing solid consistency among the Thunder. Espana didn’t have the records to confirm it, but she said Rocklin’s 199 might be a new record for the team. Rocklin 199, Granite Bay 225 Thunder Grizzlies C. Wagg 33 P. Lee 36 D. Peterson 44 D.
