FOLSOM _ The Rocklin High cross-country team’s promising season came to an end at the Sac-Joaquin Sections Cross Country Meet, Willow Hills, Nov. 11. Both the Thunder boys and girls placed seventh in their respective divisions. Only the top four teams qualified for the state meet from Division II. “I’m so proud of the way we finished this year,” said cross country head coach Dan Pereira. “Even though the results didn’t turn out like I envisioned, the effort was awesome. Every runner who competed at section finals fought from beginning to end and put in the effort” Individual runners for the boys were Alex Macchietto (22nd, 17:08), Ryan Jones (30th, 17:28), George Maio (31st, 17:29), Ty Medd (33rd, 17:32), and Connor Hensley (42nd, 17:40). There were 80 contestants in the event, with 10 individual athletes earning an invite to the state meet. No runner qualified that finished outside the top 20. The winning time, 16:04, was turned in by Del Campo’s Jordan Rushing. Leading Rocklin’s girls squad was Heidi Greenwood, who came in 26th, in a time of 20:56. Following her were Erin Greenwood (27th, 20:57), Lindsey Romeri (35th, 21:26), Sabrina Wilson (42nd, 21:52), and Sydeney Strecker (44th, 21:56). The Thunder ran only 60 seconds apart. The winning time was 17:41, turned in by Oakmont’s Karlie Garcia. The girls will lose Mikaela Yerkes to graduation, but should get back junior McKayla Burrows. Yerkes was the team’s only senior. “I think what I will miss most about the graduating seniors will be what the represented as people,” said Pereira. “This was one of my most memorable years because of the quality of people I was surrounded with, and it started with the seniors.” Departing from the boys team will be Macchietto, Jones, Ryan McCormick, and Ravi Sharma.
