Thunder spikers looking solid for 2012

After two track and field meets the Rocklin High School track and field team is looking strong as it approaches the Sierra Foothill League dual meets; the first coming up against Del Oro March 28. The Thunder boys placed first at the King/Gilbert meet in Granite Bay last weekend, and the girls finished third. Ryan Jones, Connor Besmer and Leah Carter each earned gold. Boys – First: Jones, 1600 meters, 4 minutes 26 seconds; Besmer, pole vault, 13 feet. Second: Besmer, long jump, 20 feet, 8 inches. Third: Chris VanLiew, discus, 45-7; Teddy Flanagan, pole vault, 12-6. Fifth: Marvin Gardner, 100 meters, 11.79 seconds; Alex Macchietto, 800 meters, 2:03; Alex Devereux, 300 meter hurdles, 42.44 seconds. Girls – First: Carter, high jump, 5-2. Second: Shirhall, 100 meters, 13.3 seconds; Christina Dyok, triple jump, 33 feet, 1 ½ inches. Third: Carter, 400 meters, 1:00. Fourth: Shirhall, 200 meters, 27.03 seconds; 300-meter hurdles, Dyok, 48.34 seconds. Fifth: Baylor Hogan, 100 meters, 13.64 seconds; Dyok, 100-meter hurdles, 17.10 seconds. JV Boys _ George Maio was first in the 1600 meters; Daniel Stauble was third in the 3200 meters, and Keaton Fujii placed third in the 110-meter hurdles. The boys placed sixth overall. JV Girls _ Lyndsey was first in the 200 meters, third in the 100-meter hurdles, and fourth in the 100 meters. Kyleigh Stout placed third in the 800 meters. The girls placed eighth overall. Sacramento State Classic, March 3. Boys – Second: Jones, 800 meters, 1:59; VanLiew, discus, 139 feet, 8 inches; Besmer (tie), pole vault, 14 feet. Third: Robbins, 100 meters, 11.15 seconds. Girls – First: Carter, high jump, 5-2. Fourth: Baylor Hogan, Liesl Shirhall, Elyse Rowan, Leilah Lockett, 4x100 relay, 4:13.77.
