The Rocklin varsity baseball team made a statement in the Sierra Foothill League by sweeping a three-game series from Nevada Union. On the final game of the series, Logan Webb pitched six-shutout innings as the Thunder defeated the visiting Miners 9-1 Saturday.

The junior pitcher scattered five hits, allowing NU nothing better than singles on the afternoon. Webb went on to finish his start by striking out four of the last five batters, bringing his day’s total to nine.

The Thunder offense did their best work when up against the wall. Seven of the nine runs scored came with two outs.

Rocklin nearly ended the game on the 10-run rule for the second time in the series behind a five-run fifth inning.

Ryan Alexander led the Thunder offense with a 2-for-3 day. The catcher scored two runs and drove in one.

Rocklin will open a three-game series on the road against Del Oro April 16.
