Thunder volleyball strong again in 2011

The Rocklin High School varsity girls volleyball team defeated Oakmont 3-0, Sept. 22. The Thunder swept the three games 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 to improve their overall record to 17-4-0. Senior Kelsey Garvella had 31 assists, Cailyn Prewitt led the team with 15 kills and Sierra Ueltzen recorded 14 digs. Sept. 20 _ The Thunder started the week on the right track by defeating Oak Ridge at home 3-1. Rocklin won 25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20. Prewitt and Katelyn Ivy led the Thunder with 16 kills; Garvella and Alli Painter both scored 14 points. Garvella also led the team with 44 assists. The Thunder began Sierra Foothill league play, Tuesday, with home match against Del Oro. Water Polo Sept. 22 _ While the Rocklin varsity boys water polo team won their game against Nevada Union High School, the varsity girls squad came up short. Boys – Rocklin won 6-4. Mason Pugh led the Thunder with three goals; Chris Baimas, Keegan Dre Darby and Jeffrey Seyfried also scored. Girls – The Thunder lost to Nevada Union 7-6. Aelish Guinn and Lydia Summers both scored two goals in the loss. Kaylun Brest and Alicia Phyllips both added a goal but Nevada Union was able to pull out the victory. The Rocklin JV boys squad also lost to Nevada Union while the girls team won. The boys lost 10-7 and the girls won 8-6. The Rocklin varsity girls squad is now 1-2-0 (2-2-0 overall) in the Sierra Foothill League. Sierra Foothill Standings Girls Varsity Water Polo 1. Del Oro 4-0-0 2. Granite Bay 2-2-0 3.
