The top golfers from the Sierra Foothill League, Metro League and Sierra Valley Conference will gather at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Lockeford Springs Golf Course in Lodi for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls golf finals. The top three SFL teams (Oakmont, Del Oro, Nevada Union) will participate in full, and be joined by the top six individual golfers from the other league schools. Oakmont freshman Madelin Gedeon and junior Blake Peterson will lead the SFL champion Vikings into the divisional event, hoping to earn a spot at the SJS Masters tournament the following Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park. Gedeon (second), Peterson (third) and Nicki Holm (fifth) were among the elite golfers at the SFL final as the Vikings beat Nevada Union by 10 strokes in the final SFL league tourney last week. Freshman Paige Lee of Granite Bay (the SFL’s No. 1 individual player) leads the six individuals to qualify as part of the divisional field. She is joined by her teammate Kelly Steindorf and also Michelle Crawford and Michaela Gobron (Roseville), Dana Vasko (Woodcreek) and Amber Louie (Rocklin). The team competition will include six golfers from each school, with the five best scores counting towards the team score. The top three teams at divisional and the top three players who are not part of the qualifying teams will advance to the Masters, the tourney that brings together schools of all sizes and sends it winners on to the Northern California tournament.
