Tri-City advances in Majors All-Stars Tournament

Bear River falls 6-1
The first game of the District 11, Area 1 Majors All-Stars Tournament saw Tri-City defeat Bear River by the score of 6-1 Monday night. Pitching was key in Tri-City?s victory. Tri City?s pitchers allowed just two hits and one earned run. Starting pitcher Jake Mallard performed exceptionally in three innings of work. Mallard gave up one base hit and allowed only two runners to reach base while on the mound. Anthony Vierra had the only home run of the game in the fourth-inning with the score 1-0. The two-run home run gave Tri-City a commanding 3-0 lead. Lead-off hitter Nick Ulin, went 2-for-4 on the night with a run scored and a run driven in. As a team, Tri-City managed to go 3-for-6 with runners in scoring position, two of which came in the top-of-the-sixth inning to pad the lead. Tri-City will now Rocklin Tuesday. The winner will play a Lincoln team coming off a 5-0 shutout over Auburn. Bear River and Auburn will now play Tuesday in the first elimination game of the tournament. The Auburn All Stars lost a 5-0 decision to Lincoln Monday night.
