UCCE launches ‘Eat Local’ website

Focuses on regional fruits and vegetables
-A +A

The University of California Cooperative Extension, through a Specialty Crop Block Grant from the California Department of Food and Agriculture, has launched a new website that will help residents learn more about locally grown fruits and vegetables. The “Eat Local Placer and Nevada” website can be found at www.ucanr.edu/sites/eatlocalplacernevada.

“Thanks to a Specialty Crop grant from the California Department of Food and Agriculture, we’ve been actively promoting locally grown fruits, vegetables, nuts and herbs,” said Roger Ingram, UCCE county director for Placer and Nevada counties. “Our new website will help the community learn about the health benefits of locally grown produce.”

According to Ingram, the new website includes a calendar of events (like community dinners, cooking classes and farm tours), recipes, a seasonal buying guide and nutritional information.

“We’ll be adding additional information in the coming weeks,” Ingram said. “We think the website will complement other local and statewide efforts to help consumers access fresh and healthy foods.”
