Shane Masnica (Rocklin High wrestling), Nazir Rasooli (Whitney High wrestling) and Pat Stover (Rocklin basketball) are the candidates for Placer Herald Athlete of the Month for the month of February. Voting starts Thursday and will run through March 19. The winner will be announced in the March 26 edition of The Placer Herald. Vote at www.placerherald.com. Shane Masnica The senior was one of six Thunder wrestlers to qualify for the Masters tournament at UOP. Masnica placed second at 154 pounds in the Division II tournament in order to qualify for Masters. He was also one of two Rocklin wrestlers to win a Sierra Foothill League title this season. Nazir Rasooli Rasooli is Whitney’s first-ever state qualifier after earning sixth place at 135 pounds at the Masters tournament at UOP. The junior, 36-9, also placed first in the divisional round and won the Pioneer Valley League tournament. “He has worked very hard since last season to prepare for this year,” Whitney coach Dan Parker said. Pat Stover The senior power forward helped the Thunder reach Arco Arena for the fourth consecutive season. Coach Steve Taylor calls Stover “as competitive an athlete” as he has ever been around. Stover averages 8.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
