Walk-off grand slam seals win for Thunder
The Rocklin High softball team pulled out a dramatic victory Wednesday as Delanie Chrisman's walk-off grand slam home run stunned visiting Granite Bay.
The 5-3 win kept the Thunder perfect (5-0) atop the Sierra Foothill League.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Rocklin trailed 3-1. With only two hits off Granite Bay starter Caitlyn McDuffee, Rocklin needed key hits down the stretch to even threaten.
Very quickly Rocklin found themselves with two outs and one base-runner aboard. The Thunder stayed alive when Halle Williams and Dylan Linton each drew a base on balls to load the bases.
It took Chrisman just two pitches to provide the dramatic finish. After looking at a fastball, Chrisman expected the same on McDuffee's second offering – and she got it.
"I knew after she threw that first pitch, she was going to pitch another strike," said Chrisman."So I just wanted to be collected and stay even through the ball."
Maudie Wuelfing pitched strong for the Thunder, collecting five strikeouts and allowing two runs in 6 2/3 innings of work.
The Lady Thunder will look to stay perfect in SFL action as they travel to Nevada Union on Friday (April 5).
