Warriors recover to sweep Menlo College in doubleheader

After dropping two games to the California Pacific Conference-leading Simpson University Redhawks last week, the William Jessup University softball team too revenge on Menlo College Friday. The Warriors topped the Oaks 7-5 and 10-9. In game one, junior centerfielder Breihanna Castilleja went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Junior Mallory Blodgett went 2- 3 with a double and two RBI. Freshman Emily Buhrkuhl picked up the win by allowing five runs on 13 hits. In game two, Castilleja and Blodgett continued their hot hitting. Castilleja was 3-3 with a double and three runs scored; Blodgett also went 3-3 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBI, and junior Alannah Johns had two hits in three trips plus an RBI. Junior pitcher Andrea Lutz picked up the win ande Buhrkuhl the save. The two victories improved the Rocklin school to 7-4 in conference and 20-14 overall. They are two games back of Simpson U. Simpson University The Redhawks swept a doubleheader earlier in the week, 3-1 and 7-2. Johns was 2-2 at the place in game one, and freshman Brittany Lamar was 3-4 in the second. Junior Tuma Enos had a home run for the Warriors. Buhrkuhl and Andrea Lutz were tagged as the losing pitchers. William Jessup closes out the season at Menlo College, Saturday. The Warriors final home game is Thursday at 2 p.m. against Holy Names University.
