Wet weather, winds forcing business closures in Auburn/Sierra
The wet and windy weather Friday has forced two businesses to cancel operations for the weekend -- so far.
The Auburn Old Town Farmers Market has been cancelled for Dec. 1, citing high winds and heavy rains. The market will return on Dec. 8.
Up eastbound Interstate 80 ski resort Sugar Bowl will be shutting down its operations on Saturday, too.
Sugar Bowl announced Friday morning in a press release that it will be closed for skiing and snowboarding Saturday, Dec. 1. Management will reevaluate the weather and conditions on Saturday morning and then update the operations plan for Sunday, Dec. 2, according to the release.
“These storms are actually great early-season base builders and it’s snowing pretty good up top,” resort operations director Scott Ferguson said in the release. “But with strong winds impacting lift operations and mixed precipitation limiting visibility, and perhaps more importantly in the interest of maintaining the lower-level base we’ve already got, we’ve made the decision to close for this Saturday.”
If weather conditions permit and the extreme conditions moderate, Sugar Bowl is hopeful that the lifts will be open for Sunday. For all operational updates, visit www.sugarbowl.com/operations
