The Whitney High girls swim team put Mira Loma in a virtual whirlpool last week and swam away from the Matadors 137-41. The Wildcats took all 10 events in the Capital Athletic League meet.

The varsity boys came up about one swim short for their first league loss, 89.5-83.5. However, Wildcats coach Kari Ustaszewski said the boys were confident they would turn that around at championships.

Sophomore Lauren Votava captured two first-place honors in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Her times were 2:19.29 (IM) and 1:11.82 (breaststroke).

Haley Barker also took two gold swimming the 100 freestyle in 59.68 and 100 backstroke touching at 1:08.55.

The girls also took the 200 medley relay in 2:04.67 and 400 freestyle relay clocking 4:08.65.

Other winners were Jenna Loria, 200 freestyle (2:07.76), Christina Daley, 50 freestyle (26.52), Melissa Nadeau, 100 butterfly (1:11.14), and Cassidy Wilson, 500 freestyle (6:28.70).

The boys picked up wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle with Michael Parsons stopping the clock at 24.89 and 56.22, respectively. Dakota Loew Garrelts hit the wall in a time of 5:31.88 in the 500 freestyle.

The Wildcats also captured the 400 freestyle relay in 3:57.18.
