Whitney has three PVL wrestling champions

Rocklin sends five to DII championships

Whitney High’s Jordan Achanzar (119 pounds), Nazir Rasooli (135), Julio Ceron (215) and Alex Chernyy (heavyweight) won titles at the Pioneer Valley League championships on Feb. 11. Whitney, the tournament host, placed third as a team. It finished behind Placer (first) and Lincoln. Achanzar is a three-time PVL champion while Rasooli and Ceron have won two PVL titles each. Whitney’s Jake Coelho (152) and Kenny Christian (171) each earned fourth place. This group of Whitney wrestlers will compete at the DIV championships Friday and Saturday at East Union High in Manteca. The top five finishers in each weight class this weekend will compete in the section finals one week later. Rocklin The Thunder will have five wrestlers in the Division II championships at Oak Ridge on Friday and Saturday. Senior Tommy Williams won the title at 145 pounds when Rocklin competed in the Sierra Foothill League championships at Nevada Union on Feb. 11. Thunder teammate Greg Goldner placed second (160), Nic Cooper (heavyweight) took third and Eddy Egan (140) and Joey Ramos (215) each placed fourth.
