Whitney High’s All League selections for 2012 fall sports

The Whitney High School fall athletic programs continued its upward climb toward excellence by placing athletes into nearly every All League category for the Capital Athletic League.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Wildcats continued to dominate the CAL in cross country under head coach Mark Snow. Both the varsity boys and girls teams qualified for the State Meet.

Whitney could return as many as 29 juniors for the 2013-14 fall campaign,

Following were the runners selected All League:

Boys – Ryan Hodgens, Taylor Bradshaw, Nathan Wellington and Jacob Zufelt.

Girls – Ozora Cheek, Jenica Dodge, Megan Hill, Jordan Sienkiewicz and Nicole Wellington.

FOOTBALL

Whitney Wildcats’ football again rose to the top with an 8-3 season under head coach Mike Gimenez. The ‘Cats came up a game short of the CAL title but landed almost a dozen players on the All League roster, including two juniors.

Offensive Player of the Year – Sutter Choisser along with Antelope’s Tyler Winston.

Outstanding Defensive Lineman – Aaron Froidevaux along with Antelope’s Michael Okorokie.

All League – Jason Brunet (TE, LB), Tony Coelho (OL, DL), Cody Johnsrud (OL, DL) , Francis Kim (LB), Jordan Powell (RB, DB), JR Robinson (LB, RB), Drew Romo (QB), Drew Sopinski (OL, DL), Jordan Traynor (TE, LB).

GIRLS GOLF

Led by standout Kelsey Ulep, Whitney marched through Division III of the Sac-Joaquin Section. The Wildcats took first at Divisional and Masters.

Ulep also qualified for the NorCal Championships.

Mallory Andrada, Addie Hemming, Starlyn Snitko, Kelsey Ulep.

BOYS SOCCER

Whitney made it to the second round of the playoffs before ending its season under head coach Byron Salata.

Zachary Monroe, Nich Schnable, Pierre Schulling, Soren Smith, Zachary Watkins.

GIRLS TENNIS

The following girls were named All League in tennis:

Brani Mojsich, Reema Patel, Lina Tran.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

The Wildcats finished third in the CAL standings with a 6-4 record to make the playoffs under second-year head coach James Todd.

Lainey Basques, Mackenzie Berlin, Lexie May.

WATER POLO

Whitney girls’ head coach Kari Ustazewski raised the standard another notch in water polo  and placed Michelle Sterri on the CAL All League team.
