The arraignment scheduled for Whitney High School teacher Matthew Scott Yamamoto of Rocklin that was scheduled for today will be continued until 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Department 43 of Placer County Superior Court.
Yamamoto, 33, a physics teacher at Whitney, was arrested Sept. 17 after Rocklin police officers received information regarding an unlawful intimate relationship between the teacher and a juvenile student, according to a report from the Rocklin Police Department. He was arrested for child molestation and for arranging a meeting with a minor for purposes of committing a lewd act.
The initial reports on the case have been submitted to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office by the Rocklin Police Department and are currently under review, according to a media release from the District Attorney’s Office.
“However, the investigation is ongoing and we are awaiting additional information that will allow our office to decide what the appropriate charges are based on the evidence and the law."
Yamamoto is out of custody after posting $100,000 bail. The Rocklin Unified School District placed him on unpaid administrative leave.
“Given the nature of this case and the fact that the investigation is ongoing, our office will have no further comment until charges are filed,” the release said.
