The Whitney High track and field team was able to get two meets in before hosting the Capital Athletic League Invitational this Saturday. This weekend’s field should bring out the best from the area’s top performers. At Del Oro’s 49er Friendship Meet last week sophomore Phillip Mendoza captured the high jump going over 6 feet, 1 inch. Teammates Joey Camarda and Ian Bamsey placed second and third going 5-10, and 5-8 respectively. The Wildcats’ Madeline Dart took half the gold medal in the girls high jump by clearing 5 feet. In the pole vault senior Garret Gerberding tied for second with a vault of 11 feet. Del Oro’s Chris Orme cleared 12 feet for first. Whitney’s Stephanie Diettinger claimed third in the girls pole vault with a 9-6 effort. Clarke Massey Relays In their first outing March 3, Whitney took third among 23 schools in the 4x100 (44.36), and swept the distance medley 1200-400-800-1600 meters (11:04.03). The CAL Invitational will include all the league teams, plus 13 Division II-III in all. Schools from Division I-IV-V will also be in the competition, including the Northern Section’s Durham (Div III).
