TENNIS

Whitney High School hosted its annual Wildcat Classic last Saturday with Antelope, Monterey Trail, Paradise, Rocklin, Weston Ranch and Woodcreek invited.

Rocklin High tennis coach Dale Eckenburg said the tournament was a great way to get virtually all the athletes some playing time at the varsity level.

GOLF

The Rocklin High boys golf team began preparing for play in the Sierra Foothill League with preseason matches against Whitney High and River Valley.

The Thunder topped River Valley 213-254 at Whitney Oaks Golf Club Feb. 28 with Kyle Mayrand and Cole Michael both shooting 40s over nine holes. Rocklin’s No. 7 golfer Samuel Harned carded a 39 for the best round of the day

Feb. 25, Rocklin defeated host Whitney 206-216 at Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

Blake Abercrombie fired a 38 to lead the Thunder with Andrew Penny shooting a 40. The highest round for Rocklin was a 43 for nine holes.

BASKETBALL

Former Whitney basketball standout Derek Knutty scored 11 points and pulled down 15 rebounds but it wasn’t enough as Saint Michael’s College fell to Southern New Hampshire University, 65-51 last week. It was Knutty’s 100th game for the Purple Knights.

Knutty is a senior.
