Whitney High's varsity baseball team packed a lot of action into the end of last week. The Wildcats (5-5-2 overall, 2-1 in the Pioneer Valley League) lost a league game 6-4 at Mesa Verde on March 26 and then tied visiting Pleasant Grove 13-13 the next day in non-league action. Whitney closed the week with an 11-1 loss at Woodland on Friday in a non-league game. Whitney managed just two hits against Woodland but the Wildcats' bats were on fire against Pleasant Grove. Pleasant Grove led 8-1 before the Wildcats scored 11 runs in the last of the sixth inning to go up 12-8. Whitney scored a single run in the last of the eighth inning to tie the score at 13 and the game was called after that inning because it wasn't a league contest. Whitney had already used seven pitchers in the game. Austin Cairns (triple, three RBI), Dominic Pasquale (3-for-4), Derek Knutty (4-5, double) and Vinnie Orozco (2-2, double, four RBI) led Whitney's offense. Mesa Verde scored twice in the last of the seventh inning to top the Wildcats earlier in the week. Orozco threw well for the Wildcats before being relieved by Knutty in the seventh inning. Anthony Petricelli, Knutty, Cairns and Pasquale each had two hits. The Wildcats will host Colfax at 4 p.m. today and visit Bear River at 4 p.m. Tuesday in league action.
