Whitney runners capture all four league championships

Hodgens, Zufelt, Wellington place one-two-three

In a remarkable showing of both individual and team strength, the Whitney High cross country team took all the titles in the Capital Athletic League Championships last week – boys, girls, varsity and junior varsity.


The tremendous trio of Ryan Hodgens, Jacob Zufelt and Nathan Wellington crossed the finish line one-two-three within seven seconds of one another. Hodgens led at 15:23 over the 3-mile course. Zufelt clocked 15:29 and Wellington 15:30.

Hodgens and Zufelt are seniors, Wellington a junior.

Rounding out the team were Taylor Bradshaw (7th, 16:32) and Eric Levernz (11th, 17:10).

Also running for the Wildcats were Isaiah Hannah (12th, 17:15), Alec Bigelow (16th, 17:32), Nicholas Pulido (17th, 17:40), Devin Baldez (20th, 18:07), Kent Kruetzberg (21st, 18:11) and Luke Anaya (45th, 21:34).

JV (2 mile) _ Whitney took the title behind the running of Taylor Nguyen (2nd, 11:25), Antonio Franco (3rd, 11:33), Christian Condos (6th, 11:44), Brett Snow (7th, 11:46), Nick Rubalcava (9th, 11:47), Robert LaPeer (16th, 12:21), Trent Martin (20th, 12:43), Grant Waters (22nd, 12:50), Nathan Ham (29th, 13:27), Nick Alliniece (33rd, 13:32), Nick Golden (37th, 14:02).
