Whitney softball opens with big win over Del Campo

Cotton shuts down Cougars

The Whitney varsity softball team opened their 2013 season with a 10-2 win over visiting Del Campo Tuesday.

Freshman Shelby Miller led the offensive attack, going 2-for-2 with three runs batted in. Miller reached base on every at bat, reaching on two errors, a double, and a single.

After Miller opened up the Wildcats' scoring with a bases-loaded single in the first inning, Leslie Tulloh opened up the floodgates with a bases-clearing double to give the 'Cats a 4-0 lead.

With five doubles and multiple fielding errors charged to Del Campo, Whitney was able to pull away as the game progressed.

Taylor Cotton started and finished the game for the Wildcats, keeping the Cougars to four hits and allowing two earned runs.

"I was very happy with today's performance," said Whitney head coach April Steele. "They came out swinging the bat hard."
