Coming off a disappointing season last year, the Whitney High School boys water polo team is rededicating itself. The athletes have signed contracts holding them responsible for their actions and commitment to reaching new goals. The club hopes the contracts will give them the incentive needed to compete with Rio Americano, El Camino, Mira Loma, and Antelope. “With hard work, we plan to come on top and win,” said new varsity head coach Mike Chavez. “If we take care of business now, we strive to become Whitney’s first men’s playoff team to compete this year.” Upperclassmen will help lead this year’s Wildcats with seniors Dane Sherman, Nolan Eger, Garett Butts and Jesse Ellner stepping up. Juniors Hunter Pietrzak and Landon Barney add strength to the offense and Brennon Hanson and Hayden Marshall will guard the goal. Providing some “raw” athletic talent will be incoming freshman Zachary Schall. “We will strive for perfection,” said Chavez. “However, no one is perfect, but along the way we will conquer excellence.”
