Wildcats baseball shuts out Folsom for eighth win
Whitney High’s baseball team continued its hitting ways against Folsom by blanking the Bulldogs 9-0 Saturday. The Wildcats rapped out nine hits and made them count getting only three walks in the contest.
JR Robinson was 2-for-2 and drove in four runs. Trevor Abrams had two hits in the game and a run batted in. Aaron Winter doubled for Whitney’s only extra-base hit.
Josh Little pitched four innings giving up one hit while fanning two. Robinson went two innings and Abrams threw for one. Abrams also had two Ks and Robinson one.
Friday, River Valley took it on the chin 16-6 as the ‘Cats connected for 14 hits, including home runs by Robinson and Drew Romo. Little and Jacob Erickson each doubled in the contest.
Robinson was 3-3 and drove in five runs. Jacob Erickson had three RBI while PJ Floyd, Austin Harris, Little and Romo registered two each. Floyd also stole two bases.
Head coach Rob Dorchak sent four pitchers to the mound to limit the Falcons to just five hits. Romo spent 2 1/3 innings on the hill while Chris Schwarz worked 1 2/3, Tim Snook 2/3 and Ben Murphy 1/3. Romo struck out two and Snook one.
The Wildcats now sit at 8-0 in preseason play.

Whitney beat CAL opponent Mira Loma 204-211 thanks to medal rounds by Ryan Speroni and Brian Sterri on the Matadors’ home course Haggin Oaks (Arcade).
The duo each shot a 40 as the Wildcats top five averaged 40.8 strokes. Mira Loma shot well but couldn’t make up the ground.

Ponderosa was able to get by the Wildcats 3-2 last week in an extra-inning game. A two-run rally by the Bruins in the top of the eighth provided the winning margin.
Shelby Taylor crossed the plate twice for Whitney and Kayli Shaw and Mallory Andrada provided the firepower but the ‘Cats came up a run short. Shaw and Taylor both had triples in the non-league match up and Mallory Andrada slammed a double.
Taylor Cotton pitched all eight stanzas and did a yeoman’s job collecting 13 strikeouts and no bases on balls.
CAL – Cordova 7-3, Whitney 6-3, Mira Loma 3-3, El Camino 5-6, Antelope 5-8, Rio Amercano 5-9.

The Wildcats roughed up El Camino behind No. 1 player Connor Macias’ 6-0, 6-0 victory and the 6-1, 6-2 doubles triumph of Aaron Roudebush and Dillon Garces.
