Mike Gimenez has said all along that the best has yet to come for Whitney High School’s football team. The coach made that remark during the preseason when the Wildcats were 2-3 and giving away points like Halloween candy. Whitney is now 6-3 and can win the Capital Athletic League championship Friday. The Wildcats will host Antelope in a showdown of 4-0 CAL teams. Whitney remained unbeaten in the CAL last Friday with a 42-21 victory at Cordova. Jake Rodrigues ran for three touchdowns and passed for two to lead the Wildcats. The junior now has 18 touchdown passes and 18 rushing scores. He has thrown for 1,821 and rushed for 1,042. Whitney did not have a turnover last Friday, the first time this season the Wildcats have not given the ball away.
