William Jessup to host Afghanistan international team

William Jessup University gets an early start on its 2012-13 basketball season hosting the Afghanistan National Team this Saturday in the Warriors’ new gymnasium. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Afghan club is coached by Mamo Rafig, who played for Yuba College, UC Davis and Idaho State University. The team also features Isaiah Moore (California Maritime Academy), Roland Johnson (Yuba College) and Habib Kabir (Franklin High/Sac City College).

“We are very excited about the opportunity to be able to not only play our first game of the year, but also compete with a team that competes at the national level,” stated Warriors head coach Aaron Muhic. “Sports are such a great venue to cross cultural lines”
