Woodcreek High School’s 56-32 girls basketball loss to Del Oro on Tuesday night looked much like their first meeting this season.

Del Oro (22-3, 9-0 Sierra Foothill League) clinched another league championship while the Timberwolves (17-9, 6-3) fell into a tie for second with Rocklin (16-10).

Woodcreek plays at Rocklin on Thursday night in a regular-season finale. Woodcreek is fifth and Rocklin 10th in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II power rankings. Del Oro is the top seed.

“We’ve got to go beat a good team in Rocklin and control our destiny in terms of playoffs and being the host,” Timberwolves coach Raymond Beck said.

Del Oro, which beat Woodcreek 61-32 on Jan. 26, put the Timberwolves in their place by starting the rematch with an 8-0 run. The Golden Eagles took a huge 24-5 lead after the first quarter, and there was no coming back.

“We came out real strong and aggressive,” Beck said. “We were almost too keyed up offensively. We were really in a rush.”

Woodcreek had a huge problem rebounding. Del Oro outrebounded the Timberwolves 36-19 and grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, giving the potent team more opportunities to score.

Woodcreek scored just 14 points in the second half, giving Del Oro its 59th consecutive league victory.

“I’m actually really happy and pleased with what we did,” Beck said. “Scoreboard wise, I don’t really care about that aspect of it. We competed. We attacked. We got hurt on the boards the first half; we fixed that. We attacked the basket in the second half. To be honest, we had a bunch of balls just roll around and out. The way we played, we’re really confident with where we sit right now.”

The Timberwolves also committed 15 turnovers.

Del Oro won the JV game 53-24.
