Sacramento Capitals return to Roseville Galleria
Regular season World Team Tennis gets underway tonight (Friday, July 3) as the Sacramento Capitals host the Washington Kastles at Allstate Stadium at Westfield Galleria in Roseville. The Caps open their 24th season as the league’s most successful franchise, with six World Team Tennis titles and eighteen post season playoff appearances. Team leader Mark Knowles is not with Sacramento tonight, but he will re-join the Caps this year either Sunday or on the road after his Wimbledon commitments. Popular former Caps player Brian MacPhie will sub for Knowles. He was a headliner at the Caps Charity Challenge on Wednesday. “Brian has what it takes to win,” said Lonnie Nielson, Caps General Manager and team co-owner. “He’s been on a team that won four championships and also received three league MVP awards.” Capitals regular season players also include Sacramento native Sam Warburg, 2008 US Open Juniors singles champion CoCo Vandeweghe and 2006 WTT league MVP Angela Haynes. Coach Wayne Bryan returns to lead the team’s campaign for a seventh title, and tonight the Caps will also premiere the new theme song recorded by the multi-talented Bryan. Tickets are still available at the onsite box office or by visiting gocaps.net. Matches begin at 7:30pm. The Capitals have other holiday weekend offerings for the community. On Saturday (July 4), the club is hosting a Kid’s Club clinic from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and the team is back on the home court Sunday night to face the Newport Beach Breakers at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday night affair is also Family Fun Night at Allstate Stadium. Kids age 13 and under will get in free with a paying adult.
