Brown: "Outcome no longer in question."
Charlie Brown concedes
Close District 4 race won by Republican Tom McClintock
Democratic Party candidate Charlie Brown conceded defeat Wednesday in a close 4th congressional district election. The final vote count shows Brown lost to state Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, by 1,800 votes after more than 370,000 were counted. The margin was less than 600 on election night. The retired Air Force officer from Roseville had the option of requesting recounts in each of the sprawling 4th District’s nine counties but his campaign would have had to shoulder the cost of the count if it hadn’t changed the results. Final certification by counties was Tuesday. The Brown campaign had until Saturday to lodge a recount request. “With the counts and recounts across District 4 complete, the outcome of this election is no longer in question,” Brown said. “Unfortunately, we came up less than one half of one percent short of victory.” Brown said he called McClintock to congratulate him and wish him well in Congress. McClintock had held a victory press conference Monday, based on the certified count. In a statement to supporters, Brown said that in the weeks since the Nov. 4 election, staff, volunteers and the campaign’s legal team had worked “overtime to ensure that every voice was heard in a fair, accurate and transparent manner – from canvassing of provisional and vote-by-mail ballots, to one percent machine recounts and 10 percent hand recounts by nine different county registrars districtwide.” Brown said he has never stopped working since he started out nearly three years ago on a campaign that stretched over two elections. He had started as an unknown, defeating two other candidates for the Democratic Party nomination to take on veteran U.S. Rep. John Doolittle, R-Roseville, in 2006. After polling a surprising 46 percent of the vote to Doolittle’s 49 percent, Brown continued to campaign as the presumptive Democratic Party candidate again in 2008. Under investigation over his ties to lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Doolittle announced earlier this year that he would not seek reelection. McClintock was chosen by Republicans in the June primary over former GOP congressman Doug Ose. “It has been one of the most humbling and profoundly rewarding experiences of my life to stand with you and stand for the higher standard of leadership we need to get this country back on track,” Brown told supporters in a statement. During Monday’s press conference, McClintock had kind words for Brown, congratulating his opponent and supporters for “waging one of the most hard-fought campaigns I’ve ever faced.” “There can be no doubt of the sincerity of the views or dedication in which they pursued the office.” McClintock said. "I hope it’s a consolation for them that they made a truly superb effort.” The Journal’s Gus Thomson can be reached at gust@goldcountrymedia.com.

Perhaps a strong endorsement for Brown from Gold Country Media instead of the spineless "voters choose" message could have made a difference. Perhaps the Prop 8 wave that lifted McClintock's boat above 50% was simply too much. We will never know.
But we do know that 49.79% of district voters did not vote for Tom McClintock. He has no mandate to represent only the far right and in fact, if he does, he will find himself in deep doo-doo in a couple of years in this rapidly-changing district where 182,967 people voted for something quite different from what he offered.
CA-04 gave Bush the win by almost 30 points in 2004. McCain beat Obama here by a mere 10. Were it not for Prop 8 McClintock would be going home (wherever that is) and we would have a good, conservative Democrat representing us. McClintock needs to remember that, every single day.
Now, congratulations to Charlie Brown, Todd, Neal and the rest of his campaign team and, especially, his wife Jan and his son and daughter. Charlie has changed the game in this district more than anything or anybody else. His constant contact with district voters has awakened in many thousands a new understanding of national politics. His leadership has been an example to others, red or blue. He ran a superb, high-road campaign and talked about issues while avoiding mean spirited attacks and low-brow techniques. He is a man who truly puts country first.
Brown showed us that he is an extremely decent man. He'll have to decide whether to give this a third try or not -- it must be a grueling experience so we can forgive him if he chooses not to -- but without doubt he has broken many barriers in this district and prepared the ground for Democrats to come. Republicans in the tens of thousands filled ou the oval next to his name. Independents must have given him a wide edge. The pre-election McClintock poll claiming an 8.9% lead was entirely discredited by the actions of individual voters on or before November 4 as they filled out and submitted their ballots. Thanks again to Charlie for making change we need a real possibility here in this newly purplish corner of California.
Miuwtant,
Tom McClintock will be our next representative and until he earns our distrust, we should support him. Give him a chance!
Robert Capp
Thank you to Charlie and Jan for running.
Thanks to the Auburn Journal for allowing me to comment.
bcapp1,
If McClintock continues on his present trajectory, "we" have a right to continue to insist on better and more honorable behavior representing the full district.
CanyonRat,
I asked the same thing to the Non-Obama supporters-Give the guy a chance, until he earns your distrust. Don't you think we've had enough partisan non-sense for the past 8+ years?? You certainly have the right to do whatever you want, but it wouldn't be right. (and you know it!)
Robert Capp
Miuwtant, if your voice holds true, Obama doesn't have a mandate either. The popular vote in the presidential election was 52%-48% for Obama. You can't have it both ways.
Obviously, neither candidate won the hearts of the true base for this election. I think one commenter said it best, when most people voted against a candidate versus for a particular one.
But I heartily second, Robert Capp's sentiments.....support the guy until he proves he doesn't represent us appropriately. As a non-Obama supporter, I am still reserving judgement until he takes office, even though he's already expanded the size of governement, and his choices for his cabinet, don't really seem representative of any "change" he promised.
I am hoping and praying however, once in office, we'll see some positive movements to change the direction of "business as usual" in Washington, DC.
Miuwtant,
I'm not trying to make you feel bad about Charlie losing the election, but you can't split hairs over how much McClintock won by. The only thing Tom McClintock is going to remember every single day is that he won! Since when does a candidate need a high margin of victory in order to be the rightful winner?
Brown is a decent man and he did run a nice campaign, but the fact is, Placer County is a conservative county as evidenced by the fact that a conservative "carpetbagger" beat him.
If I were Charlie Brown, THAT'S what would eat at me every single day.
Robert Capp said it. Those of us who did not vote for Obama are being asked to give him a chance (which I personally am prepared to do). Do you Democrats and liberals really think you could (and should) win 'em all?
Robert Capp:
McClintock will NEVER earn my trust, since he played dirty Republican politics that lied about Mr. Brown in the fliers that came to my house. By gosh, the man doesn't even live in our district. How trustworthy is that? The man needed a job. PERIOD
Charlie Brown was mis-represented in those fliers. Why can't the Republicans play fair? Oh yea, because it's not in them to ever tell the truth and play fair.
I hope the demographics of this district changes to a more sensible way of thinking instead of the 18th century backwards ideology.
aha Miuwtant:
depressed that the Journal did not "endorse" Brown (more)
for crying out loud woman - how MUCH MORE could the Journal and Gus Thompson have done to cheer on Brown ?
maybe devote the cover of every issue during October and November ?
but you libs really expect the media to be on your side and that is sad to shocking
but, in all sincerity, it proves that liberalism is a mental disorder
any rational person would never want to "win" unfairly
Rob Capp: very well said - but I have to politely disagree with you on supporting 0bama
he was (in my opinion) elected unfairly, with too much money and way too much media bias
not to mention that he should be given more disrepect than Bush was, to show the left how truly distructive it is and how it is harmful for the country. Now, I don't think we can go much lower, and don't feel it will lead to say, a depression as opposed to a recession because I think we're on that road anyway and even 0bama and the media cheerleading team cannot turn around what they started. It will just have to work itself out.
pam95650: how could Tom have misrepresented Brown when the photos were all the proof a sane person would need to make a decision - Brown did not support the troops or the United States in the war on terror. as far as playing "fari" see media bias in the dictionary
If there is one thing I need to teach the people around here who did vote for the Democratic candidates, it's that they really need to stop being afraid of being accused of being "impolite" to the people who persist in either changing the topic or smearing them and their candidates with lies or who are just trying to set them up for a situation where they can get run over with more verbal sewage by the other side of the "team." Because it's all just a big mind game to them, there is no human compassion whatsoever. I had these MAF swiftboating people lying to me directly face to face during the campaign, trying to set up more of these types of incidents, so I don't care how many of the Republican Reputation Clean Up Crew comes on to this site and pretends that their candidate has good intent or has earned anyone's trust- you are known by the company that you keep or pay for.
Again. We have the right to insist on better and more honorable behavior representing the entire district. I'm not seeing it.
CanyonRat: "We have the right to insist on better ad more honorable behaviour representing the entire district"...I FULLY CONCUR! Unfortunately, somewhere between starting out say, on one's Parks Commission and moving on up through council and supervisor, slight disconnects start once the territory the politician represents becomes overwhelming. Normally, when one's overwhelmed, I've found them to take the path of least resistance and let the tougher issues dangle until they're ready to face them. I begrudgingly voted for Mr. McClintock because of Mr. Brown's ties to George Soros, Code:PINK and his appearance at that home in Elk Grove where a G.I. was hung in effigy. I don't approve of carpetbaggers and shame on the Republicans for not having a stronger candidates available to fight their opponents. I did not vote for Obama because I don't like his past allegiances with Bill Ayers and that so-called 'preacher' who espoused pure hatred against my country. However, as mentioned by previous posters, I'll give Obama some slack and see what he can and will do. He owes his friends on the left an awful lot and I'm curious to see how the 'payoffs' will be made. No, I am not a Republican and I don't vote a 'party' line...I always voted for whomever I felt was the best candidate who reflects my views...regardless of party.
I agree with Robert Capp that both Obama and McClintock should be given a chance. If this Country is to survive we really have to quit this partisanship like we have had for the last 16 years.
Like on any election, past, present and future there will be winners and there will be losers. McClintock's duty is to represent ALL the citizens of CD04, so, as a citizen you have the right to communicate with him or his office, both for good and bad.
So let's work towards getting this country of the hole it is in, it will be in the best interest of every man, woman and child.
My advice to both major political parties is that they be more selective in the candidates they offer the voting public, this has turned into a voting system in which voters cast their vote not for the most qualified candidate but for what they perceive as the lesser of the evils.
Have a great day
CanyonRat, relax. Have a nice day! Enjoy the blue sky.
When Congressman McClintock goes and raises heck with Nancy, consider that a good thing. :)
CanyonRat can not relax and have a nice day, because he's just one plain angry person. Regardless of the outcome of this or any election, he will always find something to rant about. He has not had one original positive thought about any subject. As such, CanyonRat, you should look at the people you surround yourself with..... remember the best part of life is the journey, and if you're so angry for straying offpath you'll often miss the gorgeous view. Your moniker is one that would suggest you might appreciate a nice view.
Try a new one on for a change of pace. You may surprise yourself!
Enablers.
Scavengers.
Predatory Capitalists.
Please keep listing yourselves here in so we can see all the McClintock supporters and the Republican Anachronism's inner mind workings.
Pam95650, if we are so backwards, feel free to leave! McClintock didn't lie, that's just a lie you tell yourself to feel better about you man losing. Don't be such a sore loser.
Canyonrat, add me to your list. I'm proud to be God loving, flag waving, morals matter conservative.
Comparing the Obama margin of victory in the national race to the McClintock margin of victory in this race is invalid. Nationally Democrats hold a substantial voter registration edge. Obama generally lost the states where Republicans have the voter registration numbers. Does Obama have a mandate? Bush declared that he had one in 2004 when he squeaked by John Kerry by just 1%. But Obama's victory is really a reflection of the country voting the way it is registered for a change.
Meanwhile, CA-04 is overwhelmingly Republican in registration. Let's look at Placer County where Republican registration stands at just under 50% and Democrats at just over 30%. The difference in the votes for McClintock and Brown in Placer County was just over two percent. Clearly many, many Republicans couldn't even hold their nose and vote for McClintock and instead voted for Brown. If McClintock doesn't keep this in mind every day then his hold on this district will be very short lived.
To those who say give him a chance I say he needs to step up right away and tell us how he is going to serve his entire constituency including the 49.79% who don't care for his policies and the portion of his voters who really didn't have any idea what they were getting when they voted for him and will be apalled when they find out they voted for Tom Tancredo to represent them in Congress.
Early indications aren't good. McClintock could have let Brown concede first before declaring victory. He has lost a close race himself and must know how difficult it is to accept such a narrow defeat. A good start would have been the graciousness of letting Brown select the timing if not the terms of surrender. Grant did as much for Lee.
McClintock's declaration that the tide of liberalism lapped up to the shores of CA-04 was a call to continue the divisive politics many of you have deplored in your statements above. "Give the guy a chance" you say and yet the first public statements he makes after winning are partisan and divisive -- just like his entire campaign.
If McClintock wants support he'd better tell us what it is he will do besides vote "no" on every bill or introducing dead-on-arrival draconian immigration legislation or vainly trying to resurrect the stone-cold-dead Auburn Dam.
McClintock lied over and over during the campaign - in his literature, in his op eds and in his debates and radio appearances. We do not have a trillion barrels of recoverable oil. That is a bald-faced lie and he repeated it over and over again. His campaign also lied about Brown being in military uniform. These are facts and this voter will not forget them. Along with the per diem issue McClintock starts out with some heavy ethical baggage. We will keep a close watch on his actions in congress. Given his 22-year track record in the California legislature my expectations couldn't be lower. I hope he can exceed them. It won't take much.
Realist; I love the God of my understanding, I salute our flag, morals matter to me and I tend to be fiscally conservative. I am not religious, I don't believe Christians have a lock on moral definitions, being prudent with money does not implicate social values...I'm happy to be an Independent voter and thinker.
Rolandmac, good for you.
I thought McClintock was very gracious in his victory speech. Brown should have show the same graciousness when it was evident he lost. How long should McClintock wait for Brown to declare the obvious?
Yes, McClintock won the election, and he goes to Washington as a liar or a fool.
To this day his web site says, verbatim: "America has nearly a trillion barrels of recoverable oil—more than three times that of Saudi Arabia". This is an outright falsehood. He means oil shale...rock...not liquid oil, and there are so many problems with shale processing that it is nearly totally unfeasible at this time, especially with oil prices as they are.
So the next time the congressman-elect makes any statement regarding energy, view it through this lens: he's lied before.
Nashgrumlber:
McClintock is neither a fool nor a liar. We sit on massive amounts of oil, both in shale (expensive to extract) and offshore, within our terrotories and in Alaska.
But look at it this way
Brown would've gone as a traitor, had he won.
Perhaps his participation in the mock hanging of a soldier, even amounts to a court-martialable offense too, since he wore his uniform. Improperly at that, another possible offense.
So all in all, we get a man of integrity instead of a traitor.
But shale oil is still oil, like oral sex is still sex.
Like is, is.
Realist, wake up, he already did.
common_sense wrote: "So all in all, we get a man of integrity instead of a traitor."
Integrity? LMFAO! Thanks for the humor, it brightened my day.
I hate to ruin the mood here, but I think both men have integrity. McClintock won, and I hope he serves us well.
Congressman McClintock is going to do a great job. I think that in a few months, we will all be so happy we picked him for our Congressman.
He will fight for those things that the Republican Party used to stand for. Smaller government, less regulation, states rights, gun ownership, the right to life.
He will not fight for more money from the federal government to fund liberal causes.
Okay, all you partisan conservative bloggers - You are hoping that Tom McClintock will do a good job and District 4 will have great representation and that he will be supported by all of district 4 (and that in 2 years, he will be re-elected). Well, don't be hypocritical and not support our president-elect. We need to give him a chance to prove himself worthy and to do right by our country. If he does well, then we ALL win.
Robert Capp
Miuwtant
I get a kick out of your mertless inferences about the people in this district. You claim the politics of this district is "rapidly-changing district". Your only support for this claim is narrow margin of the Mclintock victory. Take a look at the percentage of yes votes on prop 8 and the percentage of votes for McCain. That will give you a better picture of the true philosophy of this district. If you want to live with fellow lefties, why don't you move to San Rafael. People struggle to move up this way to get away from people who think like you do.
As for Brown, the Dems should try to run another candidate. The fact that Brown could not beat Mclintock is beyond telling about what the people think about Brown. He is simply not the right candidate for this area. He is way too extreme. Brown needs to go away, once and for all. By the way, your claim that Bron is a "conservative Democrate" shows you are blind to truth. Does a "decent man", with a military record, during a war, show up wearing military clothing, at a rally where a fake solder is hung from a rope. Again, comments like yours drive people to flee the city for the hills.
As for the Herald not supporting Brown, what a joke. Every time the Herald mentioned Brown his military record was mentioned; like that was relevant. That proves the Herald was partial to Brown. Wake up.
pam95650:
Please enlighten us about Mclintock's alleged lies in the fliers your received.
I for one am willing to give McClintock a chance, but he sure as heck better watch what he says. I am very distbured when I see his comments that the "right" has spoken and the "liberal ways" were stopped with his win!!! He is not seeing the real world and will only last 1 term with this type of attitude.
I'm amused that so many of those posting believe or would have us believe that the 4th Congressional district consists of only Placer County.
The election is over, we all better hope those that were elected do a magnificent job.
It would be truly enjoyable to have all the factions that have become so obviously divisive in our politics, that they could at least try to bring this country back together.
I'm tired of the shrill rhetoric on both sides.
fourgen, can you say the part about being tired of the shrill rhetoric on both sides again, please?
A partial truth meant to decieve is a lie; as dirty as any. McClintocks lie about oil exists as I type on his web site. The man is a provable liar.
And get this for a change: two wrongs don't make a right. Regardless of any failing by any other person, McClintock still stands as a proven liar.
richthink, You proved yourself wrong in your own post. Brown WAS the right candidate for the Democrats to run; it's been 20 years since a Democrat held this district--they've always gotten trounced. Brown came very close in the 2006 election & about as close as one could get in this last one without winning.
Also, you're dead-wrong about why people move to this area; has nothing to do with political persuasion, but then hyper-partisans always over-politicize anything they can get their hands on.
Richie, is "why don't you move to San Rafael" supposed to be an insult? LOL!
richthink: You proved yourself wrong in your own post. Bown was exactly the right candidate for the Democrats to run. This district hasn't had a democrat in 20 years & they have almost always gotten trounced since then, until 2006 when Brown came within 3% & then this last election where he came as close as possible without winning (less than half a percent).
Also, you're dead-wrong about why people move to this area; it has absolutely noting to do with politics, but then hyper-partisans over-politicize anything they can get their hands on.
Charlie and Jan Brown live in Roseville, are gracious, intelligent, open and caring. Tom McClintock is an interloper who fought a dirty fight, permitted outrageous innuendos in the swift-boating fashion of failed politicians.
The residents of Roseville should be proud that they voted in the majority for Charlie Brown.
I think McClintock sailed in on the yes on 8 bootstrap, and the fact that some 10% of the voters for Obama did not vote the rest of the ticket.
AliceSmith
Prop 8 had little to do with Brown losing. Brown lost because of his extreme thoughts and thoughtless behavior. Your adhominem argument against McClintock shows your lack of critical thinking. You accuse him of "swiftboating". Why don't you try taking apart what McClintock actually said about Brown. That will be tough because what was said was true? McClintock pounded Brown for his actual positions and behavior. Brown did the same thing regarding the per diem money McClintock accepted! I think the voters choose which lapse of judgment was worse; accepting per diem, like all the other Dems do, or showing up at an anti war rally wearing military style clothing where a fake soldier was hung on a rope (then lying about it). Brown may be a decent person. Many people who have extreme political views are decent people. Obama admitted Bush is a decent person. So what! The people in this district cannot trust a person, who constantly brags about his military record yet hangs out with Cindy Shehan, etc. We also do not want someone who places a ton of conditions on capitol punishment, supports born alive abortion, supports homosexual special rights, etc. The list of extreme positions are endless.
Steelybob:
I am so glad you think Brown is the right candidate. Please do the people of this state a huge favor, beg Brown to run again! This will ensure a future victory by the GOP or an Independent. Again, the fact that Brown lost to an unethical do nothing, then failed to beat McClintock should, if you were a critical thinker, lead you to the inference that perhaps Brown is out of touch. If his positions were not so extreme, he would have smoked McClintock.
As for why people move to Placer County, keep in mind that this area has just about the highest GOP regisration in the entire state. Further, the county is virtually all white. Birds of a feather like to flock together. If you took a poll, I think you would find that people have relocated here, in part, because of the overall generally critical thinking philosophy, as clearly demonstrated by the high GOP registration, held by the people in this country. Indeed people move here, in part, to get away from the extreme left. How can you not see this?
richthink: It appears your critical thinking skills are in need of a tune-up. This district has always been predominantly Conservative--people do not relocate within the same state for political reasons, only a fanatic would pull up stakes due to an area's poitical philosophy; one would have to be a real lightweight to go through such a life-changing experience as moving from one's home to a different area because they can't handle political thought--are you insane?
You wrote: "If his positions were not so extreme, he would have smoked McClintock." Really?? Democrats have a disadvantage from the get-go in this area--Brown excelled with only an 1,800 vote difference after more than 370,000 votes counted. Are you so mathematically challenged as to not realize the significance of this? Not only did Brown excell in this election, but McClintock seriously under-performed. Our man keeps getting closer. You'd better hope that McClintock rises above his customary mediocrity within the next 2 years, or you'll be introduced to Representative Charlie Brown.
You're ignoring the history of this district.
Richie, Richie, Richie. People move here, especially from the bay area, because it's cheap. It has little, if nothing to do with politics. You really think someone, especially in these economic hard times, is gonna say "hmmm, these cootie-infested democrats disgust me. Let's move to Rocklin!"? That's the main reason Rocklin was named "one of the 10 best towns to raise a family" instead of other fine California locations such as San Carlos, Santa Clarita, or even your personal favorite, San Rafael. You put Rocklin next to any of those cities and the 2 main things that separate them are A) the housing market and B) people like you live here and not there. Amen to that.
Oh, news flash: Brown lost by less than a percent. If you've learned any basic math skills from your 10 years at Sierra College, you'd be smart enough to know that your second coming of Jesus won by the slightest of margins. I'd hardly consider that a reason for Brown to just "go away" and that he's "not the right guy for this area"(also taking into consideration that he lost by 3.2% in 2006 to a total sleeze. Why you would want John Donothing representing you is beyond me). So, he gained ground against a more credible guy in a Republican county. Zoiks!
By the way, ad hominem, although Obama only earned 43.8% of the PC vote, that was by far the highest any dem has earned in the county since 1976. Uh oh!
phoenixsnow and steelybob
I loved the "insane" comment from steelybob. Is that the best you can do? Politics do play a role in where people move. When I think of Berkley, fake hippie scum comes to mine. When I think of Davis, fake nimby lefties come to mind. Davis has high school test scores and a great downtown, but I would rather live in Rocklin because I hate phonies. I think people think about these issues when they are going to uproot. Lets take a look at Rocklin. Desite what phoenixsnow believs, Rocklin is not a "cheap" place to live. South Sac is another story. The only thing going for Rocklin is a crack police force. The developer friendly city counsel has stripped malled the entire town. Why live here? People that research Rocklin realize the politics of the citizens, "predominantly Conservative", means the city is great for families. Why else live in Rocklin?? Without question, "predominantly Conservative" means low crime, high test scores good home value.
As for Brown, yes he did well in the last election. However, I cannot think of another GOP member weaker as a candidate than McClintock. If Brown was ever going to win, it would have been in the last election. Keeping in mind, many GOP voters jumped ship and voted for Obama. That proves that a dem can get GOP support provided he has half a brain in his head. Sorry, Brown fails in that regard. His extremist positions sunk his chances. The fact that Brown lost to a "total sleeze" and now to a total carpet bagger, is beyond telling. He simply cannot win in this district. If he ever had to run against a GOP candidate that actually accomplished something, he would get slammed. Take a hint, Brown is not a viable candidate.
richthink: People either move to where opportunities are, or for the beauty of the area--not political persuasion. Your hyperbole is utterly unconvincing. Let's see if anyone agrees with your line of thinking on this subject.
Rich, no, I'm sorry. If you hate phonies, Rocklin is not the place to be. And yes, compared to a good portion of the state i.e. civilization, Rocklin is very cheap. Look at the census conducted in 2000. While the information is a little out of date, the story remains the same; places like Rocklin and Roseville are a bargain. With the median price of California houses in the low 200K's and Rocklin at 212K...I mean come on. If someone is looking for an affordable place in California, they're not going to LA or the Bay Area...they're going to some place in the Sacramento radius. It's cheap, it's open, it's growing. And if you were to check out the actual criteria as to the selection process of the "10 best towns to raise a family," the first thing on the magazine's website is "locations that offer an ideal blend of affordable houses, good jobs, top-rated schools, wide-open spaces, and a lot less stress." While it's easy to call out the the article on Rocklin for a bunch of falsified statements, the general criteria is finding an affordable place to live. Not politics. Sorry.
Phoenixsnow:
First, there are few jobs in Rocklin. Second, the open space, thanks to our developer loving city counsel, has been replaced with half empty gross strip malls. It resembles the grossness of Elk Grove. Third, compared to Sacramento, the homes in Placer County, especially Rocklin, are way more expensive. A person might ask why would a person want to live in gross looking Rocklin? It is not coincidental that Roclkin has high test schools in the schools, low crime and higher median home prices than Sacramento . Those facts are directly related to politics. For the most part, in CA wherever there is an enclave of conservative thought, there is low crime, high test scores and high home prices. This is true even for ugly looking communities. People will work themselves to a frazzle to live in an ugly looking community like Rocklin because they like the politics. You might argue that Davis is full of lefties and everyone wants to live there etc. I submit that Davis is full of fake lefties. Over and over the people in Davis have revealed themselves to be classic limo libs (no low income housing, etc) The bottom line is that a high standard of living equates to politics. Living in a left wing dem community means high crime and mediocrity. Look at Notomas. A plethera of new homes and a ton of low income housing. 19 home invasions in a year by residents of the low income housing. A ton of armed robberies. The home prices have plummeted. Test scores in the schools are beyond low. The exact history has already occurred in Elk Grove. Liberal politics equals low test scores in public schools and high crime. People move to gross looking Rocklin because they like the politics.
So people move to San Diego County, a primarily Republican area, because of politics? Really?
The jobs/open space thing was just the tail-end of the quote. I in no way endorse those two aspects of Rocklin.
"Living in a left wing dem community means high crime and mediocrity." Mediocrity? My goodness, go outside. Why do people hold places like the SF Bay Area with such a high regard? Because you have to work hard to make a living? Because you have a greater sense of humility? Obviously you've never stepped foot outside of your safe haven of Rocklin or Roseville or Lincoln or whatever, so until you do...those little "mediocrity" finger pointings of yours...they're just very silly and have no backbone of support at all.
phoenixsnow: There doesn't seem to be any reasoning with richthink; of course people don't move to this area for the politics. His relentless insistance that this is so, represents one of the more bizarre assertions I've ever read on this board. It'a obvious he has an extremely partisan axe to grind & expresses his opinions with the focus always being political to the point of taking this nonsensical view.
Nothing you or I say will change his mind.
Yeah, you're right. Oh well. Maybe Charlie Brown can change his mind =)
I have to laugh. Canyonrat says, “You are known for the company that you keep or pay for.” Aren’t these the same Libs that said Obama was running for office, not Ayers or the racist Wright or the other criminals Obama ran with? You can’t have it both ways. I keep hearing the same old lies from Canyonrat, Steelybob, Nashgrumbler and others. They continue to make empty comments without any support. Just because you say it doesn’t mean it’s true. You must support your statements with something other than anger and lies. Charlie Brown was caught lying; it was proven. Where is your proof that McClintock lied? BTW, I’m not a big fan of McClintock. I voted for him, and I’m going to give him a chance. I would never vote for Charlie Brown.
Regardless of your political affiliation, McClintock is not from our region, he lives hundreds of miles south of us, and my concern is how well he will be able to make local decisions in our area, when he has little to no experience here. I don't feel that he will represent very well in Washington our area that he does not know. Had I been old enough, that would have been my main reason for voting for Brown.
Unfortunately, this theory that someone who lives in a different region of the state cannot represent us is being propagated without any basis in fact.
Tom McClintock will represent those who believe in conservative economic principles, limited government, rural values, agriculture, etc.
If he were from San Francisco, I think perhaps the argument about being from another location (planet?) might hold true. However, the area of California he represented was very much like Placer County. Similar people with similar concerns.
As for the local stuff... Tom is not a pork barrel politician. He was not going to Washington to try and share the pork with the lefties. He will try to keep our dollars in our pockets to spend locally, rather than sending them to Washington and then cutting deals to get some of them back.
