Wildcats need two wins to reach finals
Staff report

Whitney High’s varsity girls soccer team, the No. 2 seed from the Pioneer Valley League, opened the Sac-Joaquin Section, Division IV playoffs Tuesday against visiting Dixon.

Dixon, the No. 2 seed from the Capital Valley Conference, is 7-0-1 since April 7.

The winner will play today against either Sonora or Center while the loser’s season is over.

Sonora would host Whitney if it topped Center but Whitney would be the host if it is Center that is still alive. Today’s match begins at 3:30 p.m.

The winner of today’s match will play in the section finals at 10 a.m. Saturday at Folsom High.

Colfax, the PVL champion, is one of the favorites to reach Saturday’s finals.

Colfax went 10-2 in PVL play while Whitney was 8-2-2.

The Wildcats (11-3-4 overall) have allowed more than one goal in a match just once and that came in a 2-0 loss to Woodcreek Feb. 28.
