The city of Colfax has been invited to participate in the Parade of Cities during the California State Fair starting at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
“We would like to share with the state of California what life is like in Colfax and could use some more help,” said Connie Heilaman, owner of Connie’s Decors, who is coordinating this event. “We could use more entries. If any businesses, organizations, individuals or custom cars would like to participate, call me at 346-8250 or 273-8886.”
Theme for the city’s entries is “Railroad Days and Autumn Harvest.”
Among the participants already lined up are grand marshalls Gertrude Paul, representing the Colfax Area Historical Society and Myrtle Findley, representing the Colfax Garden Club.
Ten-year-old Alex Madsen, recipient of the 2008 California Conservation Champion award from Sen. Barbara Boxer, will be riding in the parade as well as City Council members Suzanne Roberts, Ken Delfino and Mayor Sherrie Blackmun.
Colfax Area Chamber of Commerce President John Potter is planning to attend as well as Don Dougherty, who will be driving his historic mercantile truck.
Also joining the line-up will be the Colfax High School cheerleaders and school mascot as well as the Junior Falcon cheerleaders and football players.
The reigning Fourth of July queens have been invited to participate and Heilaman is hoping for a group of bicyclists and clowns to join the march through Cal Expo.
Parade entries will line-up at 6 p.m. on the west side of the Administration Building. The best spot to view the parade, Heilaman said, will be near the Bungee jump and high dive.
“You will see the parade as it enters and exits,” she said.
The state fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Boulevard in Sacramento.
Admission ranges from $10 to $6 with no charge for children under age 4. Parking is $8.
