An Auburn woman is facing alcohol-related driving charges after a rollover on a closed section of an Applegate road on the edge of the North Fork American River canyon.
The state Parks Department reported Wednesday that Carolyn Nomura was driving down Boole Road early Monday morning when she apparently ran into a large hole with her SUV and then rolled it onto its top after leaving the dirt roadway.
Parks Ranger Scott Liske said Nomura and a passenger were reportedly on their way to a sandbar to watch the sun come up when the accident took place.
The accident occurred some time between 3:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., with the initial report being fielded as a 9-1-1 call at 6:17 a.m.
Nomura, 40, suffered a severe leg injury, including two broken bones. She was taken by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. Liske said Nomura was conscious but remained in the surgical unit Wednesday.
Passenger William Wright Jr., 27, of Auburn, was also taken from the remote scene of the accident by air ambulance but released from hospital later in the day after an assessment for injuries. Liske said The extent of Wright’s injuries were unknown.
Nomura is facing a driving-under-the-influence-of-alcohol charge that could be a felony because of her passenger’s injuries, Liske said. Evidence of methamphetamine use could lead to further charges against the driver and passenger, he said.
Boole Road has been closed to vehicles for at least two years and the area on the north side of the American River where the crash occurred is part of the Auburn State Recreation Area.

That's what happens when you drink and drive, you get what you deserve. At least it was an isolated incident and nobody else got hurt.
This accident just goes to show you what happens to people when
they drive and drive and add the use of drugs on top.
It is a shame that she was hurt but, she only had herself to blame.
One would think that at the age of 40 she would have given up on
all the unlawful ways she has been doing since she was young.
Maybe this is the wake up call that she needs and hopefully others will
take notice what can happen.
a speedy recover to them both
sorry meant drink and drive!
they are both tweakers and i hope they get put in jail. time to do something with all the meth heads in this county
She got exactly what she deserved. I hope she gets the maximum. I am sick of trashy people around our area.
Wow everyone. Where is the concern? How about the sorrow for this womans family? It's a terrible careless thing that happend but all of this hate is worse! Auburnlover............. YOU are sick of trashy people? Do you know this woman personally? It sounds like it. Humm?
I only hope that this touched people in this community with a wake up call that there is a problem & we should as a community do something about it. Perhaps more public awareness & education.
I think that chloe knows them personally. I do too tho. And it was her stupid f__ing fault for being out somewhere where she didnt know how to drive. Everyone knows shes a Ditz, so he should never have went with her......
I SURE AS F*CK WOULDNT HAVE!!!
But, even tho I hate the *!&^#%, I hope she can deal with the consequences that she made for her life. I heard she had to get her leg amputated and I wouldnt wish that on anyone.....even my enemy.
