Cobblestone Elementary Walk to School Day

Cobblestone Elementary School sixth-graders Caitlin Caffre, left, and Janae Schmidt lead the way as students and parents walk from Pebble Creek Park to school.

Second-grader Kylee Andersen walks to school with her parents, David and Melissa.

Cobblestone Elementary School joined schools from around the world Oct. 3 to celebrate International Walk to School Day.

Students and parents adorned in bright colors walked and rolled to school, where representatives from FedEx, Rocklin Fire and Rocklin Police gave safety demonstrations.

The event was organized by Safe Kids Placer County and the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency to raise awareness of the need for safer routes for walking and bicycling and to emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment.

“Basically, the less cars we have in the parking lots, the safer it’s going to be for students,” explained Solvi Sabol, transportation demand management manager for PCTPA.
