A passenger car sits in the Combie Three Canal near Olympic Way, when the driver lost control and spun out making a splash. This photo ran front page as stand alone wild art. I like it because, honestly, how often do you see something like this?

The biggest fires of the year, the Westville Fire and the Government Fire near Foresthill burned more than 20,000 acres. This photo from across the canyon is actually a rare view not seen by people because the road to it was closed off. With out the helicopter in the photo the viewer might assume fog is rolling in, but is in fact dense smoke.

This particular photo of the students and faculty on the last day of Alta Vista elementary school being open took a while to organize. I wanted the people to stand in the 100-formation to represent the amount of years the school was in service. It was a day I never thought I would see when a school actually closes.

Auburn resident Susan Parker uses a handkerchief to prevent inhaling smoke while outside. ?This is the worst I?ve seen it in the past 16 years,? added parker through her hanky. I was hoping for a photo like this during the smoke out to convey how the Westville and Government fires affected residents outside Foresthill.

Captain Darrell Jones of the Loomis Fire Department battles a 15-acre vegetation fire in Penryn. I really like this photo because of the railroad ties burning provides a great background for fire Capt. Jones in the foreground.

Del Oro high junior Jason Armes, and water polo goalkeeper, recovers from a broken neck he received while diving into the pool in Loomis. Armes was very reluctant to get his photograph taken but this photo really tells the story of what happen to his neck as the water polo game commences in the background.

A suspected trailer explosion set a barn on fire in Newcastle sending one woman to the hospital with serious injuries. This photo stirred up over 6,000 views online when I blogged about a ?spirit? standing in the photo. This is one photo I will never forget.

- Auburn police officers Gary Hopping, left and Chris Forman arrest Eileen Spooner, suspected of trying to abduct at least two children in the Auburn area. Her T-shirt adds to the captured moment. Officers also found an open bottle of alcohol and pain medication in her car.

Placer High Hillmen varsity football players, Jon Slane, left, and Griffin Quick celebrate with other teammates around Dalton Dyer, center, moments after his return from an Oakland courtroom overturning the CIF ruling to forfeit games, putting Placer back in the playoffs. The Hillmen went on to the Div IV championship game but lost to Whitney High. The story is our most read to date.

This photo of Kathy Morgan, former Auburn resident, makes me laugh every time I see it. I saw her in a parking lot when I was running a quick errand and her personality is what attracted me to take the photo with her Maltese named Lindy. Before I took the shot she grabbed a pair of sunglasses and put them on Lindy?s face.
